Y&R Fashion Tips: The Hot Look for 2009 Ruffles and Tiers

Two hot looks for the summer are the Ruffle and Tiered look. Now I am not a “girlie girl” and typically would not wear a ruffle or a tier. However a friend who has worked in retail for years suggested both of these looks to me and as usual she was correct. If you have noticed the Ladies of The Young and the Restless are already ahead of some of us on this new look. Chloe, wore a simple tiered dress to Cane and Lily’s wedding and simply dressed it up with her accessories. However in order to don these two items there is no need to be as petite as the current Mrs. Abbott.

There are a few nice things about both of these looks. Unlike belly shirts and spandex, they are flattering on most body types. Let the truth be known, as women we come in various shapes and sizes and a lot of “Hot Styles” only look hot on the body type the designer had in mind when they were created. The good thing about the ruffles and the tiered apparel is that they are very good at camouflaging the things that we don’t want others to see. For example, if you are like me and feel your tummy is not flat enough to sport the tighter halter tops, finding a top with the ruffles that are vertical or diagonal and on the front distract the eyes of onlookers. If other areas that reside under our shirts are your concern, try a top that has the ruffles pretty much located around the neckline and or bust area. This will give you comfort and confidence while wearing the top and eliminate any need you might have to put on any additional hardware underneath your clothes, after all it is the Summer. These tops and dresses can be very sexy and sassy or very calm and cool. Made of cool, free-moving materials and in an array of colors and patterns. They are very versatile and can be worn anywhere from a cookout to a club.

The overlapping panels in the tiered dresses and tops add a flattering appearance as well, and can be found long or short without being too form fitting. Note: I say most because the important thing in wearing any style is your comfort level. If you don’t feel right, you won’t look right. But the tiered dress and top play the same optical illusion as the ruffles. Even if you are shopping for maternity clothes or are a teen looking for a nice summer dress to wear to the mall, these dresses are a must have in your summer collection. .

So where do we find these looks. I have seen them everywhere from Nordstrom’s to Target. So no matter what your budget, you should be able to find something that will work for you. I’ll even post some examples:
